Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Councillor Gavin White came to Manchester in 1995 to study Architecture at University. Married to a NHS doctor with 3 young children, Councillor White moved to Withington in 1997. He was a voluntary youth and community worker with a local charity for many years in Old Moat and joined the Labour Party in 2004.

In that time Councillor Gavin White has helped set up the Friends of Old Moat Park group in 2002, and has been a governor at Old Moat Primary School since 2005. Alongside the Old Moat Labour councillors, he helped the school to get a new building that opened in 2012 with funding agreed in the final days of the last Labour government.

He was elected as a Labour councillor for Old Moat in 2018 and continues to be actively involved in the Old Moat community with many local residents groups.

Councillor White sits on the Southway Housing People and Places committee as well as the Neighbourhood and Environment Committee, and the Planning and Highways Committee at the City Council.
